Getting back to coding | The Monthly Log #8
Already the end of September - where has this month gone?! I feel like I wrote the last log less than a week ago. Anyway, this month has been pretty productive, not necessarily with what I had originally planned (shiny object syndrome please go away!) but I still got a lot done.
After a rather successful launch (according to my own standards) for Frameplate on Product Hunt I finally got back into coding a little app I’ve been meaning to build for a while.
For a very long time I've been wanting to get into the habit of writing more - first because I believe it’s good for mental health to journal and get my thoughts out of my head but also because I really want to improve my writing (so these monthly logs can benefit from it too 😁). I tried using different apps like Google Docs and Notion but just the loading time of these apps was adding too much friction and I got distracted before I even started writing.
So I decided to create my own little app - fast to load and with the bare minimum in terms of features - to challenge myself to write at least 100 words every day.
The brief was:
- One field to write my entries
- A counter to track how many words I’ve already written
- One field to add a title to each entry
- One section to display all my previous entries
- A minimal and slick design

I’ve used it over the past few weeks (whilst I was building it) and I've never written so consistently. And yes, it massively helped me to write this monthly log today as I was able to grab snippets from some of my previous entries.
It’s called hndrd and you can give it a try here. It’s very much an MVP so thoughts and feedback are welcomed!
